Dear Parents, Players, Volunteers & Sponsors,

We have been closely monitoring the situation (COVID-19) pandemic and its potential implications to our players, parents, volunteers, sponsors and our upcoming 2020 season including the possibility of us having to delay or even cancel the season. The purpose of my email is to share the Canada Rugby League Association’s (CRLA) announcement below, regarding the suspension of all rugby activities nationally, immediately and until at least April 16 and our Board decision to delay the ordering of our team uniforms that was scheduled to be placed this week.

“With the rapidly developing situation of COVID-19 both globally, and at home, the Canada Rugby League Association (CRLA) has decided to suspend all rugby activities nationally, effective immediately, until at least April 16th. Municipal, provincial and national health authorities have issued separate advisories, but at this time, for the safety of our fans, officials, coaches and players we have decided to make this decision for the upmost of safety. The CRLA will re-evaluate the suspension with its Provincial partners before April 16th, and provide further updates then.”

While the CRLA’s announcement does not currently affect us as our season has not started, there are critical season preparation activities, in particular the ordering/purchase of team uniforms that the Board has decided to delay as we believe it is not prudent or appropriate to order team uniforms knowing that we can not guarantee to our parents, players, volunteers and sponsors that our 2020 season will proceed. As a result, it is expected that the current situation will result in one of the following scenarios including at best the season starting as scheduled with out uniforms, a delay to the start of the season with or without uniforms or at worst a cancellation of the season and the refunding of registration fees.

As mentioned above the CRLA’s suspension of this season will be reviewed by the CRLA before April 16th. In the meantime, we will continue to monitor the situation and follow the directions of the CRLA, Haldimand County, the Ontario Ministry of Health and Health Canada as our main priority is to ensure the health and safety of our members.
