News and Announcements
As we all continue to navigate our way through these challenging times, the Haldimand Wolfpack Rugby League Football Club (RLFC) Board reviewed information from the Ontario Ministry of Health, Haldimand County, the Grand Erie District School Board, Ontario Rugby League and the Canada Rugby League Association with respect to a possible return to play in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
With the health and safety of our players, coaches, volunteers and their families at the forefront of all decisions, the Board has come to the extremely difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Season. This decision was not made in haste but with sensitivity for the intricate difficulties facing families in Haldimand County, the Six Nations of the Grand River and beyond.
Our families who registered for the season are now being communicated with and issued refunds.
In the event that the situation changes we are hoping that there might be an opportunity for us to host a free “Try Rugby” community day(s) in late July or August. For this to occur, we would have to have sufficient confidence that we can do this safely, and that measures are in place to mitigate any risks that might arise from a return to play.
We would also like to recognize and thank our generous 2020 sponsors and partners below that were confirmed prior to the suspension of Rugby League activity in Ontario for their support. The following is the list of sponsors and partners:
• Caledonia Lions Club
• Canada Rugby League
• Caradoc Townsend Mutual Insurance Company
• Darrick Davidson Mechanical Services Ltd
• Haldimand Insurance Brokers
• Impact Prowear
• Iroquois Roots Rugby
• Libro Credit Union
• Off The Bench Sports Excellence
• Ontario Rugby League
• SheDo Tax Company
• The Clark Companies
• Toronto Wolfpack’s Full80 Community Initiative
We look forward with great optimism and can’t wait to see all of our kids, coaches, volunteers and their families in 2021.
Dear Parents, Players, Coaches, Volunteers & Sponsors,
We continue to closely monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and its potential implications to our players, parents, volunteers, sponsors and our upcoming 2020 season. The purpose of my email is to confirm that due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation that the Canada Rugby League Association (CRLA) and subsequently the Ontario Rugby League have decided to extended the suspension of all Rugby League activities nationally until at least June 8, 2020. We, in consultation with the CRLA and ORL continue to monitor the most recent developments and governmental advisories surrounding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and are assessing the impact on our 2020 season on a month-to-month basis as the pandemic continues to unfold. The CRLA will re-evaluate the suspension with its provincial partners including the ORL no later than May 31st and provide further updates then.
Unfortunately unlike the original suspension, this decision directly affects the start of our season with our proposed Saturday, May 30 season kick off and the following Week 2, June 6 session both falling within the new June 8 moratorium. As a result we are considering multiple scenarios including the reality of a modified 2020 season, further potential postponements, the possibility of having to cancel our season and the issuing of partial or full refunds depending on a modified or cancelled season. As per the initial suspension announcement the ordering/purchase of team uniforms will continue to be placed on hold until such time as guarantee to our parents, players, volunteers and sponsors that our 2020 season will proceed.
As mentioned above the CRLA’s suspension of this season will be reviewed before May 31st. In the meantime, we will continue to monitor the situation and follow the directions of the CRLA, ORL, Haldimand County, the Ontario Ministry of Health and Health Canada as our main priority is to ensure the health and safety of our members.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding. Please stay safe, stay informed, stay connected with friends and family and where possible, stay home.
Dear Parents, Players, Volunteers & Sponsors,
We have been closely monitoring the situation (COVID-19) pandemic and its potential implications to our players, parents, volunteers, sponsors and our upcoming 2020 season including the possibility of us having to delay or even cancel the season. The purpose of my email is to share the Canada Rugby League Association’s (CRLA) announcement below, regarding the suspension of all rugby activities nationally, immediately and until at least April 16 and our Board decision to delay the ordering of our team uniforms that was scheduled to be placed this week.
“With the rapidly developing situation of COVID-19 both globally, and at home, the Canada Rugby League Association (CRLA) has decided to suspend all rugby activities nationally, effective immediately, until at least April 16th. Municipal, provincial and national health authorities have issued separate advisories, but at this time, for the safety of our fans, officials, coaches and players we have decided to make this decision for the upmost of safety. The CRLA will re-evaluate the suspension with its Provincial partners before April 16th, and provide further updates then.”
While the CRLA’s announcement does not currently affect us as our season has not started, there are critical season preparation activities, in particular the ordering/purchase of team uniforms that the Board has decided to delay as we believe it is not prudent or appropriate to order team uniforms knowing that we can not guarantee to our parents, players, volunteers and sponsors that our 2020 season will proceed. As a result, it is expected that the current situation will result in one of the following scenarios including at best the season starting as scheduled with out uniforms, a delay to the start of the season with or without uniforms or at worst a cancellation of the season and the refunding of registration fees.
As mentioned above the CRLA’s suspension of this season will be reviewed by the CRLA before April 16th. In the meantime, we will continue to monitor the situation and follow the directions of the CRLA, Haldimand County, the Ontario Ministry of Health and Health Canada as our main priority is to ensure the health and safety of our members.
If you have any questions regarding the closure, please “Reply All” to this email so that we can provided a singular response to any questions or concerns.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding. Please stay safe and take good care.
